Jaemun Lee working in sculpture and Christoph Sagemuller mainly working in painting look closely at a series of events that occurred both in Korea and the Philippines during the residency period in Bacolod and present an installation conveying messages reminiscent of those events. In 1980, the sugar cane industry Bacolod had relied heavily on collapsed and the inter-island vessel MV Don Juan collided with a cargo ship and sank, causing about 700 casualties. With this Bacolod artists, the local government, and civic groups have made efforts to bring new life to this region through the Masskara Festival. The festival was launched with the purpose of overcoming this crisis by encouraging people by masking sorrows with the masks of smiles.
