< 행복한 장난감 Happy Toy >은 협업하여 제작된 키네틱 설치작품이다. 이는 유아용 모빌의 형태에서 착안 되었다. 모빌은 어린 아이의 두뇌 발전과 시각적 감각을 자극시키기 위해 이용된다. 설치 장치와 같은 이 장난감은 유아의 침대 위에 매달아 색상, 형태, 소리, 움직임 등을 통해 아이의 감각들에 자극을 준다. 이 단순한 장치는 생존, 충족, 만족이라는 인간의 지성 능력을 발전시키는 데 필요한 도구이다.
Happy Toy is a collaborative kinetic installation that is based on the model of a baby mobile. Mobiles are used to stimulate the visual sense and the brain development of a child. This toy like device is hanged on top of the crib and uses color, shape, sound, and movement to stimulate the child’s senses. This simple device is an essential tool to develop human intelligence, where intellect is a basis for survival, satisfaction, and contentment.
< 행복한 장난감 Happy Toy >은 성인용 모빌이다. 이 협업 설치작품은 어떻게 우리 사회가 균형을 이루는지, 어떻게 개개인이 필요하거나 원하는 도구를 통해 행복을 유지하는지, 어떻게 개개인의 선택들이 사회에서 불안정, 불평등, 불균형으로 요약해 보여줄 수 있는지에 대한 논쟁을 촉발시키는 데 있다. 이는 그러한 개개인들의 분투가 조화를 위한 사회적 투쟁에 대응하도록 이끄는 것이다.
이 모빌은 빨강, 노랑, 파랑, 검정, 흰색의 스타킹이 매달려 있다. 각각의 색채는 특정한 계절, 감정, 방향, 원소, 에너지 그리고 상태 등을 상징한다. 작가들은 각자의 욕구와 필요에 따라 선정된 오브제들, 그리고 사회에 균형을 부여하는 오브제들을 집어넣은 스타킹들을 만든다. 어떤 모빌의 중앙에는 필리핀과 한국의 자장가를 결합하여 반복 재생되는 소리의 움직임과 대응하는 작은 종들이 걸리기도 한다.
이 변형된 모빌은 서로 다른 환경에서 살고 있는 다섯 명의 작가들이 협업을 통해 제작한 것이다. 이 설치작품의 구성 요소들은 사회 내에서 균형을 이루는 것들의 관계와 반대되는 개념으로서 서로 다른 역사의 ‘차이’를 반영하며 ‘개성’의 원칙을 강조한다.

Happy Toy is an adult mobile made to stimulate discussions on how societies try to achieve balance, how individuals struggle to maintain happiness thru objects of need and want, and how individual choices can sum up to instability, inequality and disproportions in a society, that lead back to the individuals’ struggle to cope up in the social battle for balance.
The mobiles are hanged with red, yellow, blue, black and white stockings. Each color represent a specific season, emotion, direction, element, energy, and condition. The artists form the stockings, by inserting objects that are based on their individual need or want and objects that provide balance in a society. At the center of some mobiles, are chimes that are triggered by movement, mixed with looped Hiligaynon and Korean lullabies.
This modified mobile version takes its form from a collaborative process of 5 artists living in different circumstances of the present. The elements of the installation reflect individual histories of discrepancies and highlight the principle of individuality as it opposes its relation to attain balance in a society.
